“Sir, can I get the job?”
“What's your name?”, comes the answer.
“Mahesh Patil, sir”.
“Patil ?”, the man repeats in such a manner as if he had used slang, as if Patil could not ever be title of a person.
“Why on earth did you apply for this government job ?”
“Sir”
“No, you do not have a chance , I could have helped you had your title been Ambedkar, Ram...”
This are the excerpts from the conversation which took place when one of my friends, Mahesh Patil, currently unemployed, enquired about a police job.
Let me tell you , who are these Ambedkars and Rams... they are the people in whose favour every law in the country is made, every bill is passed in the parliament keeping their best interests in mind.
This all started in India, back in 1950 when the constitution of India was being formed. But, this reservation was meant only for 10 years, then. And it aimed at balancing the inequalities created by the casteism and excludism prevalent from ages.
But, this reservation has continued and increased instead, ever since. Not, because, we could not bring a social balance but, more because the great Indian politicians did not want to lose their vote bank.
Well I feel the reservation in the current form is outrightly illogical, it does not aim for any social balance, instead promotes casteism. How can someone justify caste-based reservation to eradicate the evil of casteism and social inequality.
Our leading technological institutions (read IITs) have become victims to this vote bank policy of government.Even though these institutions were no where in the list of topmost instituitions in the world, their standard and quality have further deteriorated pathetically.
The statistics of reservation in education today is : 15 % for Scheduled Castes, 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes, 3% for Physically Disabled, and 27% for Other Backward Classes. In a total, 52.5% seats are reserved today. Still, news of reservation for women, keeps coming up every now and then.
Under these circumstances, person from so-called upper-caste ,officially known as general category people(read the other ones are special category) rightly feels helpless, neglected and cheated. As, merit and intelligence is being compromised under the rule of the law.
I propose a reservation policy , if at all there should be one, based on income and resources of the family. Do away with, this casteism as soon as possible. It would even be better to provide free education , even for technical and vocation courses, to poor and needy. Provide them free books, free facilities, give everything for free. But, do not discriminate on caste, religion and creed. Everyone should have an equal opportunity. Talent and merit should not be ignored. A developing nation like India can't compromise with its talent and resources at any cost.

absolutely right, its all because of the vote game the general people are hunted .. but i feel there is no wrong with keeping reservation for physically handicapped .. and to add to the info there are lot of institutions which have women reservation .. this is not the proper path for developing india !!
ReplyDeleteI strictly oppose reservation policy
ReplyDeletei support precent reservation policy because their is no alternate for that
ReplyDeletei see ur alternative plan but this will not work in india.
in our PDS system their is no reservation for any one but still millions are in poverty, thirst & hungry why?
we dont have any norms to decide who is poor and who is rich,we have only based on bpl & apl . apl doesnt mean they are rich & it only mean that they r above poverty line
according to planning commission people above 28/32 in village/city are above bpl and r apl
how can one with monthly income 1000 per month can send their children to a good school?
even your monthly internet charge is 500 and tuition fee is above 500 so ur theory based on income is ruled out . so plz my dear bro: think wise . give the suppressed people a chance
to grow
to survive
to live like a man
